My new collection of Yoga art, done in marker-ink and paper. I had so much fun sitting in a sunny spot inside my home and being whimsically creative. I have come to discover yoga and have been practicing for almost a year now, to say it has changed my life would be an understatement. I have never experienced anything like it. You should give it a try, have an open mind, try several different teachers until you find one you like, don't give up, once you make it past a cretin point, it becomes a beautiful dance.

The Desire to Create

The first glimpse of the creative process is the yearning: the desire to create. We bathe in the yearning, feel that yearning inside ourselves, and express that yearning in every move we make. Every move then becomes the catalyst for our yearning to grow. There is a tangible, physical push.

The creative process unfolds in many dimensions, Emotions, realizations, and insights come up. We ride them, our practice becomes and exploration, in which we follow our thoughts, feelings, and impulses where they lead us. In the same way that scientist follows where the data takes him, in the same way the White rabbit scurries down the rabbit whole, it is that exploring, that open-ended quality, that moves us into a deeper space.

And then we begin to shape it. We shape it by dancing with it, swimming with it, by seeing where the current takes us. We lean to feel the moment, trust the throb of the impulse – without judgment or manipulation. The more sensitive we become to the “flavor” of each impulse, the more we can differentiate one impulse from another. Becoming one with the object of our awareness, we open to the point of being vulnerable, and then we let go, and become the witness to the shape, the creation itself.

This is by far one of the best articles I have read that describes the artist in the creative process. I’m sure any artist would agree. The complete creative process is in fact the creative process.

Time for Change

I've been debating for a while to give up painting. I know it’s like giving up air. Breathing is part of our life and so is creating for me. It’s in me, it is me…but at some point I have to step back and take a look at my home. I have art everywhere. The bigger the canvas the better I like it. But gosh-oh-my, what am I to do with it all. I’m not good at selling myself, and I create to create not to make money, although the occasional SOLD painting always makes me happy. It’s like an affirmation from them universe, wow, someone does like what I do… I knew my artwork had been taking up all the wall space when my husband asked me, “Where oh were did grandpa go”? O-My-gosh, where did grandpa go, I had slowly been replacing my family photos with my artwork, not out of disrespect but out of lack or room, but it did not fully hit me that my art had taken over until my my college aged daughter came home for the holidays and tried to stay in her room which had become the “catch all” for my paintings and everything else. I had to stop and rethink……what have I done, I’ve taken over…..Okay…let’s get real; the MOST important thing to me is family, so time to regroup. Let’s take ½ my studio (the big half) with my huge canvases and easels, which honestly collects more dust in the winter than paint, let’s put the easels up in the garage for the rest of the winter until I can bring them outside to be “one” with spring. Let’s wrap up all the paintings that are hogging the wall, bedroom, and closet space and place them in a spot that’s out of the way, why didn’t I do that before. I will admit, I had an over whelming since of sadness as I wrapped up my precocious art. Each painting was painted with love, passion and a special something. I paint from an inspirational feeling and as my oldest daughter came in and saw what I was doing, there was this unspoken acknowledgement for how difficult this was for me to do, because she understands me and the connection that I have to my art. But she also understands my frustration with lack of ….space… I wrapped each painting that was over 24 x 24, wrapped in left over Christmas wrap that I’ve had for years, I wrapped them inside out, so the white of the paper is showing, protected from dust and dirt they are now snuggled up with Santa Clause, they are up and out of the way. So now my art studio has been cleaned out, all the major art supplies have been place out of sight, I am left with a card table and some minimal supplies to where I will use self-control and paint small, small, small…. I have a huge request for my inspirational hand painted rocks, so that’s where I’ll begin. It’s not the size of the art; it’s the heart that goes into it and I look forward to painting 5 x 7 and smaller. My house is on its way to becoming a “less is more” feeling and my family photos will once again adorn my hallways, this will be a nice surprise for my husband who’s missing seeing grandpa but through it all has been wonderful. My studio is actually nice and clean and where my easel sat, now sits my meditation mat. I’m looking forward to setting in meditation and just being ONE with the Universe. Who knows what “creative” juices will begin to flow? I just might find myself there. Stay tuned, as I will still be creating Small works of art. For now, this feels right...

Creating a Vision Board

Start the year off right, you too can create the life you wish to have by creating your very own vision board.

Whats required... well, it requires the desire to want something different in your life. It requires time and faith but most of all it requires a positive attitude.

Supplies = Magazines, scissors, tape, glue, photos, markers, cardboard, card stock, or canvas board. The stuff you "add" to it to make it pretty is never ending.

You can do this project alone with some introspect, or with a few good friends having a fun exciting time. I've done both and still have received the same effect. Do what works best for you. Just be open and if a picture attracts to you, then it's meant for you. You can examine why you were attracted to it at a later time. Don't question, just feel.

The goal of this project to "put-it-out-there" to the universe what it is you want from life. You may surprise yourself with the outcome. What's your desire for 2012? Do you want to take up painting, travel, find love, learn yoga, go back to school, get in-shape, connect with an old friend, the list is endless to what we can obtain in life if we believe it's obtainable. Remember when we made our "new years resolutions" a long list of things we wanted to accomplish only to fold them up and put them away, them to find the list years latter to discover that we did not accomplish any of what we'd written down. With a vision board you use pictures, do you want to travel to France, then put up a picture of France or an air-plain flying over the Ocean. Do you want to climb a mountain, then put a picture of a mountain and a person hiking or hiking boots. Do you want to learn a new trade, then put a picture of that trade up. Find love, then put a picture of a couple holding hands or some other romantic seen. Use pictures of what you want out of 2012. Tape/glue them up, write with pen or paint positive affirmation words on your vision board like, accomplish, loved, travel, peace, joy.... you get the picture, right?

It's a collage of your desires and when you place it in a place that you can view each and every day, you kind-of meditate upon it, just observe and feel what it feels like to climb that mountain, fly that plane and hold that hand. Feel it, believe it and be thankful for it before it ever comes to you and one day you'll notice that ....hey, I have that, I did that and I am that.... WOW... what an amazing life!

Burrrrr.... it's cold out there. For me, 50’s cold. I know, I'm spoiled to So Cal weather, but ...it's where I live. Time has changed and it gets dark at 5:00. Not my most favorite time of season, but hey......that's OK, this is the season to grab a blanked and curl up and just BE. This is the time I sit and sketch for hours on end coming up with new ideas to create. It's OK, to take a break and I guess that's what I've been doing. It's ok, so if you too are struggling, if you too are some kind of artist finding it difficult to create, tell yourself, it's OK...I'm on creative vacation and let yourself just be......

The art of doodling for no apparent reason other than to connect pen, paper, and hand, there is no need for direction, no need to draw straight or to follow any apparent path. The doodle is free flowing, a doodle has rhythm and feeling, it expresses emotion from either your inner self or that which is surrounding you. The doodle can even become a form of meditation. Sit still with the tools needed and let go of control, do not judge and just be. I find the best place for me, is any quite place, sometimes I listen to music, which adds additional rhythm to my doodle, sometimes I just sit outside and let nature move my hand. If you’re struggling with any type of anxiety, frustration, or boredom give the art of doodling, a try, it’s a great way to calm the mind. There’s only one rule, do not judge your doodle, just let it be. Let it be your form of meditation. Let it be your therapy, or just let it be.

Last year my daughter and I went Dolphin watching and I snapped this picture of some seals sunning on an old buoy. It just caught my eye and was so pleasing to look at; I knew I'd want to paint it. I love the old red buoy and I love the passing of time that it has as it bounces and bobs with the Ocean, it reminds us to be “one” with life. Don’t fight life, move with it.

The seals take a little time-out from swimming to rest.... as should we...it’s in the simplest pleasures in life that we really find joy…here’s wishing you a day of rest and enjoyment..

Beach Corner...

Thought I'd re-post a picture of a mural in celebration of summer and my most favorite spot....the beach.... I LOVE to paint palm trees, they bend, twist, and are so flexible...you really cant paint them wrong... they are so fun and whimsical... the grass skirt along the wall is also hand painted and I can guarantee, the pelican on the door won't make a mess..

Namaste = I bow to you... greetings my friend and goodbye... I honor you.... Place your hands together at your chest in a "prayer" position and give a slight bow.... say, Namaste.... there, you did it. Tell me now, don't you feel much better?

This little sign I painted for a little spiritual store in San Clemente. The spiral circle in the back means, “constant growth” to continue and to expand… we’re always learning.

It's surrounded by hand painted rocks from the Ocean. I LOVE my little hand painted rocks. Each one say's a word, love, joy, peace, and hope. The store has my painted rocks lying all around. Anyone is welcome to take one home. Something so simple can bring much peace. My favorite painted rock is one that say's breathe and believe.....I work in a high school and I painted rocks for all my students ( well about 30 of them) the teen's LOVED them. Everyone needs something positive, so if you ever need a little gift or a project to do, go collect some smooth rocks from the ocean or lake, make sure they "feel right", I take my time to pick just the right ones. Buy some craft paint, puffy paint, and acrylic sealer.

The meaning behind the painting Symbolism

Just like the saying, “all the worlds a stage”, so is, “the world is full of signs” Signs have been around before Christ was born. If we slow down our life and observe our surroundings we will find that there are messages everywhere. Messages from God, the Angels, our past, messages from those who made mistakes, messages from those who found truth, messages about reaching enlightenment, spirituality, peace and harmony. The world is full of teachings, lessons, mistakes, and promises. It’s our human ego side that blocks us from recognize the lessons that are waiting to be learned. Our human ego that keeps us bound in doubt, self-loathing, unhappiness, despair, addictions, and anxieties. It’s time to free ourselves of these burdens that our human ego has placed upon us. Breathe and let go. Breathe and learn from the past, let go and begin again. It’s never to late to learn. It is never to late to forgive. It is never to late! Today is the first day of the rest of your life. Signs, support, and love are everywhere, just open your eyes and see. You will never reach a state of pureness if you cannot let go of control and just be.

The meaning

The Birth Chart = From England in the 17 Century. It starts with birth, so this painting begins in the beginning.

Ladder of Transmigration = Medieval Christian sign for the soul’s pilgrimage from earthly existence to paradise. Our only way to true living is reconnecting with our souls purpose and as we learn, we climb the ladder of existence to paradise.

Infinity = Referring to time, distance or numbers. Time, it goes on and on, locked in a cycle of forever, even after one’s soul travels to Heaven, time still remains. While we are gifted with the earthly life, it is imperative that we live a Godly life. Painted here, it also represents the eyebrow of the eye, which is long, and forever connected to wisdom and old age for a life long lived.

The Eye/Eyebrow = The ability to see, vision (literally and metaphorical), associated with magic or spiritual power in many traditions, in Chinese Buddhism long eyebrows are a sign of wisdom and old age. One eye open for the seeing of the world, one eye closed for the seeing of the soul.

Om = (Aum) the greeting of peace in India. The symbol represents the four states of consciousness: awake, dreaming, sleeping, without dreams and the transcendental state. I believe if we can live in the state of Om, then we will have found true self-peace. In meditation we begin with the chant Om and end with the chant Om. It’s the worlds most scared vibration and should be vibrated to the very tips of your toes to the top of your head.

The Cross = ending in the center of the eye is the symbol I feel is most widely know. The sign of the cross that represents Christ, many variations of the cross exist with many different significant meanings, but here it is simple and what I think we should never forget as we live each day and that the ultimate sacrifice Christ gave for us.

My new study at the moment, I’ve been reading about signs and symbols and WOW… so interesting. They have been around for a very, very, long time. I am always inspired to create art out of whatever I’m currently learning about. After all, each day's a new day to learn. Right now, it’s currently symbolism. I’m just fascinated. And if writing a sign or having a picture of a symbol evoke peace, harmony and good vibrations, then that’s a good thing. Everything in this painting represents goodness and a willingness to gain a more peaceful, spiritual, insight. Can you guess any of the signs? I'll post them and their meanings later… for now, just observe, ponder and be.. It’s all good!

Another seaweed painting, but I just LOVE painting them. This one’s painted in a darker hue and painted in landscape. I truly felt I was swimming in the ocean while painting, with my Ocean waves music up as aloud as my family would allow, I just drifted my paintbrush onto canvas.

No, you don’t have to be creative

Want your dreams to come true in 2011? Want to accomplish your goals? It’s easy, create a vision board, yes, it works. A vision board is a special place where you put your dreams, goals, ideas and things you wish to accomplish or have in your life. You may think this is silly, but a few years back my girlfriends (I call them my Angels) and I spent a day doing just this. We cut pictures out of magazines everything we wanted to see in our lives. Some of mine were having a fireplace mantel (done) learning how to meditate (done) have a wonderful garden with vines climbing around my patio (still growing but done) to loving my life (I love my life). Many more items where on my list and I can happily say that they have all come true. Now it’s time to create a new vision for 2011.

I use a bulletin board but anything will do, as long as it’s in a place that you can see every day. Mine is in my bedroom and when I have my quiet time in the morning, I spend time looking at it and believe that everything on my board is in the here and now. Feel how it feels… bask in the glory that anything and everything is possible.

It’s very simple, cut out pictures from magazines, quotes, and sayings, print out the same from the computer and post them up. Just ‘Goggle’ vision boards and see the many ideas that come up. I’m still working on mine and when I complete it, I’ll share it with you.

Good luck and have fun. Put a movie on, get some magazines and believe that if you can see it, you can have it and be it….

It's almost done... the first in my Mermaid collection for a great new store in San Clemente.

I've had some struggles painting with the weather being very wet, but once I started, it became an obsession that I could not stop.

Today, I'm going to take a quick trip down to the beach for some awesome sea air.

I want to wish you all a happy New Year. I'll be sharing later today with you a project to help you kick start the new year in the right direction.

As I set forth on a new Journey, I am very excited. I will be designing and creating some new art for this up-and-coming new store. It's a store that you can lean to heal, meditate, use yoga and much, much more. I can't wait to share the stores web-site with you when it becomes live. As per the owner’s vision, this store will be about transformation and it’s located at the beach so what better place to transform your life than at the beach. Positive Affirmations

The surest way to lift our spirits is by positive affirmations. An affirmation is a word, symbol, or saying that we tell ourselves over and over. It can be as simple as telling yourself that, “ I am loved” and by doing so you invoke the feeling of love within yourself.

My positive affirmation art came about when I started to meditate. During some meditations I would be guided to say positive affirmations and this invoked a feeling in myself that I had been lacking. Our society today relies on others to make us complete. We rely on others to approve of ourselves, to tell us that we’re beautiful, strong, talented, loved, healthy, intelligent, worthy, and so much more. It’s when we stop relying on others to fulfill our emotional and spiritual needs and learn that we are responsible for our inner peace that we can truly find our happiness.

I’ve created my “positive affirmation” art to inspire you. Reflected mirrors for you to look upon and a positive affirmation at the bottom for you to repeat to yourself. Are you beautiful? Yes, you are, so look upon yourself and gaze in the center and tell yourself that, I AM BEAUTIFUL. If you do this every time you pass this lovely picture, before you know it, you’ll believe it.

There is only one you. No other person is like you and you’re beautiful, strong, talented, loved, healthy, and intelligent, worthy and you deserve to be happy.

I know it's been a while since I've posted any new artwork, but let me assure you, I've been painting. I'm working on a new collection that I like to call, "Positive Affirmations". I'm sure it'll be a huge hit. While taking in some of the paintings to my framer for hardwire on the back, they sold one before it was even ready. Meditation Sign

We all need our "quiet time" for me, meditation time is a must. In the AM and after work and if I'm lucky right before I go to bed, in the AM I like a guided meditation. This happens when the house is still asleep and its only about thirty minutes. It sets the day ahead on the right path and gets me in a wonderful "thankful" mind and attitude and frankly, drives my co-workers nuts… “Why are you always so happy.” After work, it's more simple...just a little “quiet time” to myself sitting outside in nature giving thanks for a wonderful day. In the evening some very enlightened music as I do some yoga stretching and lay my head down to bed, this has become a very powerful time for me as I set my intintions for the universe. I end my day pretty much the way I begin my day. In communion with God and the Universe, life is good...and only when we "slow down” our mind can we truly come to appreciate the wonderful world we live in.

This painting is for you to share. Print it and use it as "me time" hang it on your door so your family will respect your meditation time. Give yourself at least one hour of "quite" each day. I guarantee it will lift you sprits.

I love to meditate. From simply quieting the mind and sitting alone to attending a guided mediation class to meditating on my own. I think it’s imperative in today’s world for us to meditation in some form or another. I guarantee it will help you to become the person that you are meant to be. It will help you live a better life. New studio

Ok, so the re-do studio is taking a bit longer that I wanted. The paint on the walls is complete... but the carpet wont be in till later this week. I know, carpet you say.... in a working studio... don't worry, drop cloth will be firmly in place and it'll look nice. But darn-it-all, I wanted to paint... the creative juices are flowing, so I set up outside and went to town. It felt to good to paint in the sun again. I completed 2 1/2 paintings yesterday. It was AWESOME.

Here's a picture of my little make shift studio table with some paint, brushes, and yes an empty glass of wine. I thought I needed a toast to a well-painted day :) New studio room coming soon.

I'm taking a quick break and redoing my studio. Getting fresh paint and yes...carpet... this time I'll try and keep the paint off the floor, but my knees like a soft place to kneel, I tend to dump the chair and get on my knees to paint.

This picture hangs in my office at work, It's my "happy place" when work gets crazy. I love the beach and the ocean. My heart breaks with the oil leak, that's why I am asking for a global prayer request.

It’s our responsibility to help clean it up and we can do our part by praying for it. Use your power of thought and prayer to help heal our oceans. It’s not too late and don’t stop until it’s clean.

About four weeks ago, I had a hard day at work. I had to deal with an unhappy person that decided to make me their verbal punching bag. While taking my lunch break, I went to the store and purchased myself a bouquet of purple daisy flowers for 3.99. I needed a little something to make me feel happy. My purple daisy flowers lasted for three weeks on my desk. I change the water twice. They smelled great and looked even better.

This painting is a tribute to my purple daisy bouquet, my favorite flowers.

Ok, so pity party is over. Creative juices are flowing....... it's time to create. I will not blame the lack of SUN any longer. English Proverb say's.... "the shortest answer is DOING"... so, it's time to get "doing".

Actually, I've used this little break to read and study a few of the great art masters and to work on my own sketches. I'm ready to begin. The studio is cleaned up and ready for new visions to come alive. So, I celebrate ME.. And thank God, my Angels and the wonderful Universe for giving me my Muse back :)

My Dear Friend

(It's not art, but I wanted to share with you, My dear freind who was HUGE in supporting my Art carrer)

March is an especially happy and sad month for me. It’s when I celebrate my very dear friends birthday and also morn the loss of her life. She lost her battle to cancer just thirteen days before her birthday. I celebrate her wonderful life and the good person that she was. Before she passed, we would talk about meeting up in heaven one day. She said she would save me a seat by her on the front porch looking out over green fields. We use to say we’d be rocking side by side in rocking chairs. I can see it now, rocking with her, having a cool glass of lemonade and remembering all our wonderful adventures together. We were neighbors and raised our young children together, not a day went by that I did not visit with my dear friend. She always had a smile on her face, no matter what obstacle came her way. She was a true pure soul and I know without a doubt that she is now a beautiful Angel watching over young children as they make their way from this world to Heaven.

Out of her death, wonderful things happen; just like out of any tragedy… it brings people together. Our friends and neighbors have come together in support of finding a cure for cancer through participating in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. It’s a way to raise funds but more important, it’s a way to celebrate the people that have passed.

The Self-Portrait

I can’t stand not having any new art to post. So, as I struggle to find my creative muse or let’s just face it, a warm sunny day to sit outside and paint, I thought I share something I’ve done in my past.

A painter often paint’s a self-portrait of themselves. Authors often write their first book on their own life story, so why wouldn’t an artist paint their self-portrait.

I painted this self-portrait but not in human form, in animal. I never set out to paint myself in this animal form, it just evolved and I can’t help but see myself in it, or at least the “me” that was me at the time. A serious, deep, emotional, strong, bold, and yes… dare I say, beautiful self. This picture hangs in my studio. It’s one of my favorites that I’ve painted.

I love the horse, such a beautiful, strong, creature and if taken care of, very loyal, but with all its strength, it’s still a very fragile animal. I see me, my soul looking out from the very eye of this horse.

So if you’re an artist, don’t be afraid to paint yourself in animal form. It might be very liberating for you.

The name, I don't know where it came from. It's just two trees stripped of their leaves reaching out to each other while sharing a moment and giving comfort. The mesmerizing sphere/moon is meant to calm the soul and bring you to a place of comfort. Sphere shapes are types of mediation instruments and have been used for centuries. Mediation is a big part of my life. I’m lost with out my “quiet time” I have each morning. I always find it better to have a “focus” for mediation, something to get lost in while your mind wanders to a different place. For me, this represents that. Two Sisters, I guess because when we find that special bond of “sisterhood” regardless of whom it’s with, we can strip down our defenses and accept each other for what lies beneath… the raw self.

This is the first in my new collection of peaceful meditation inspired art. I hope you enjoy.

We often wonder what that other road would have been like; you know the one we didn’t take, or if the grass really is greener on the other side. If we spent as much time looking at our own life and path we just might see the beauty that lies from our own road that we took. If only we would learn to appreciate our little road bumps and flat tires, instead of looking at the path not taken, we just might learn to appreciate what we have a little more.

This painting inspired this thought; no, I’m not sad or looking at the grass on the other side. This painting developed this weekend and it was created as I covered up a painting that I had done years ago trying something new. As I sat back and viewed it, it reminded me of a road and how…. if we just slowed down and looked at our own path, we just might find some beauty in what we have…so here’s to finding your beauty… enjoy your bumpy road in life, I’m enjoying mine.
